We'll come alongside you to understand your needs, listen to you and support you. Because what's important to you is important to us. If you need help getting started, connect with our LGBTQIA+ patient navigator.
Our job is to make sure everyone feels safe seeking care and to improve the health, safety and well-being of the LGBTQIA+ community. We’re committed to continuously learning and to getting it right so that we can provide the best possible care and be your health advocates.
We’re honored for all Corewell Health West Michigan Hospitals to be recognized as “High Performers” by the Human Rights Campaign’s 2024 Healthcare Equality Index. This designation is awarded based on policies and practices related to equity and inclusion for patients, families and employees.
To earn the "Safe and Affirming" designation, providers individually complete an online training program developed by the National LGBTQIA+ Health Education Center and implemented by Spectrum Health.
Provider training covers a variety of clinical and cultural topics—such as proper terms, how to use pronouns and much more—with the goal of reducing gaps in care, increasing trust and building intentional connections with the LGBTQIA+ community.
Whether you need primary care, a specialist, a specific service or support, getting you connected with the care and resources that are right for you is our goal. That’s why we have a patient navigator dedicated to the LGBTQIA+ community who can match you with a safe and affirming provider that fits your needs.
To find a safe and affirming provider near you, just start entering “LGBTQIA+” in the Find a Doctor search bar, and select from the specialty results listed. You can also refine your search based on your location and preferences. Select a provider to learn more about their background, specialty and services offered.
Enter the keyword "LGBTQIA+" in the Find a Doctor search bar.
Look for this rainbow badge in provider offices. This badge will let you know who completed training and which practices provide safe, affirming and inclusive care to the LGBTQIA+ community.
When you choose a Spectrum Health provider, you are choosing personalized, supportive and effective care in a setting that maintains your dignity. Our "Safe and Affirming" providers, for adults and pediatrics, are trained to be culturally and technically competent, and to help you reach your health goals—because developing a long-term relationship with our team can only be accomplished if you feel safe and heard.
Our pediatric and adolescent services and specialists are committed to making sure that all our youth, including our LGBTQIA+ and questioning youth, feel heard, celebrated and loved.
