Protected percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) program

The Spectrum Health Protected PCI (percutaneous coronary intervention, angioplasty, stent) program consists of a multidisciplinary team dedicated to managing patients with complex cardiovascular disease. The team focuses on improving quality of life for patients with cardiomyopathy and coronary artery disease who experience chronic angina. Patients can be reviewed at a weekly multidisciplinary heart team meeting with individualized plans of care developed and implemented with input from the patient and family.

Diagnosis appropriate for referral

  • Angina and low ejection fraction
  • Chronic angina with known residual CAD
  • Any PCI versus surgery opinion
  • Anyone turned down for open heart surgery
  • Last patent vessel
  • Unprotected left main and distal left main bifurcation
  • Recurrent stenosis of vein graft
  • Planned PCI that may require hemodynamic support
